Health & Safety Information

We very much want guests to have an enjoyable and safe stay at the Laurels. Accidents can happen at any time, to the most careful of people, but there is an added risk when one is in unfamiliar surroundings. For your safety and information, we have tried to identify possible sources of ‘danger’ and advise how to avoid these and minimise risks.

Guests

Note Guests must take every care to ensure the safety of any visiting child/infant or less mobile adult. WIFI is provided. Please do not alter any internet settings.

Fire

Please familiarise yourself with the detailed instructions for use of the Fire equipment provided, and fire escape procedures, in the Information and Advice folder provided for guest’s information. The Fire equipment provided are fire extinguishers (C02 & Foam) on each floor as well as fire blankets in the kitchen. It is suggested guests take a few minutes to familiarise yourselves with their location. There is an electric fire fitted in the lounge, care should be taken when using this and children should be monitored. We do ask guests to be extremely sensible and aware of the special dangers posed by fire, and the risk to personal injury.

  • Never leave cooking on the hob, unattended.
  • Never leave an electrical appliance, unattended, such as the toaster, hairdryer or Electric iron.
  • Please ensure all unnecessary electrical appliances & lights are switched off, before going to bed.
  • Please note, “Tea lights” and candles are not allowed.
  • The Laurels has a No Smoking policy within the house, please use external ashtrays provided.

Smoke and heat detectors are fitted throughout the house and are tested regularly. Torches are provided.

Hygiene and Welfare

  • Pets are allowed on the ground floor only.
  • We can arrange for catering service if required and additional cleaning during your stay.
  • Mattress protector and pillow protection are fitted.
  • A small First Aid kit is provided.
  • Note, some lights have energy saving light bulbs.

Central Heating etc.

The Laurels heating is powered by oil fired boiler with timed control and can be adjusted as necessary. Detailed instructions for use of the system are found in the Information and Advice folder. The heating system is checked annually and appropriate certificate is provided. Please note the pipes around the boiler become extremely hot.

Disposal of Waste

Please help us by sorting your refuse into the appropriate bin. Bins are stored in the utility room. A food and general waste bin are in the kitchen, spare liners are provided. General and green waste bins are located outside the property. The bin categories are:  glass (bottles/jars), plastic containers (milk cartons only) paper, cardboard, household rubbish.

Flooding

Internally, please do not leave any tap running, as there are potential serious consequences. Please do not leave the bath, basin or kitchen sink taps running, unattended.

Bathrooms

Please take care when getting in or out of baths and showers, and be aware that a tiled floor can become slippery.

Stairs & Beams

The stairs; the stairs could be slippery in slippers/socks, so extra care should be taken, and at all times use the handrail when using the stairs, children should be supervised at all times. Also please be aware there are multiple internal steps throughout the house. The Laurels has low beams and doorways throughout the house so please be aware of these.

Games Room

Games rooms are provided, darts and pool, children should be supervised at all times.

Outside

There is a road directly outside the property and care should be taken when leaving and children should be supervised at all times.

Garden and Paths

A shed is provided at the back of the property which has a fire pit and BBQ, remove them before operating and they should only be used in the appropriate places. Children should never be left unattended around these items. The paths around the property can become extremely slippery and are uneven in places. Guests are remined to never climb the trees and walls, some of the walls are low in places. And please keep off all flower beds.

General

It is of the utmost importance for guests to read the information that we send you in advance of your arrival, (key collection etc), and the Information and Advice folder on arrival. Please also ensure that you familiarise yourself with the building, its surroundings and all safety instructions.
